Skittish with people

Black_Wolf Sep 20, 2008 05:02 PM

I have an 8 month old mix, she's really skittsh with people she doesn't know. She's great with dogs. Even got attacked and eneded having to go to the vet cause it tore her ear canal(got bit on the side of her head right behind the ear) and when she saw the dog agian she tried to be friend him. But she's so frightened of people it's sad/annoying.
Now when people come over I'll have the people give her bits of hot dogs evertime she comes near them. Is this something that can be over come, or is it a lost cause?

Her age may be a big factor. Don't push her to accept people. Read the articles "Timid Dogs" and "Socializing to People," at the link with my signature below. Access to the area is free and no registration is required. It's made available to the public by the Veterinary Information Network.

At your dog's age, there is a lot she has to take in. It can easily be overwhelming to her. Read the articles carefully, and follow the instructions. You have a good chance of success if you do.

At her young age I would work with her, having her meet as many friendly people as you can with them giving her treats.
