Prolotherapy?????

Chelle Sep 26, 2008 10:06 AM

My dog has been diagnosed with a moderate grade medial shoulder instability. I've done a ton of research lately on the options available to us. One I've come across is prolotherapy. Everything I've read about it claims great results. The claims seem too good in fact. Opinions?

Prolotherapy is a type of counterirritant therapy, where an irritation or inflamation is induced through an injection, and the body reacts to it with another inflamation to quiet the whole process down. Some people feel it works miracles; I can't say as I have never used it. As always, it is best to get information from a disinterested third party. That means from someone who is familiar with the treatment, but is not going to be treating your dog. so they have nothing to gain personally. Best is someone who uses it occasionally, but also has other modalities to use for similiar conditions.
