Hi,

Generally speaking, a blue-Tongue is going to be a good 'starter lizard that with the proper regimin-should be hardy and easy to care for. Note: Bluey's can be fussy eaters at times. A Uro, on the other hand-depending somewhat too on where you live, can be more of a challenge. The require very xeric conditions and very high temps. Deviation from this can lead to a rapid decline.

Best of luck on whatever you decide. You made the correct first step. You are researching before purchase.

Best regards,
Jean

Besides my 2 BTSs I have several reptiles (iguanas, PTS, Beardie, Croc Skink, Gecko, Salamanders and URO)and the BTSs are the only that NEVER EVER had ANY health problems! They started to eat as soon as they arrived home and never had a difficult acclimatation period! Sometimes i completely forget i've them!(my maid cleans their cages!).Although they are VERY picky eaters they are very hardy! I feed them 2 or 3 times a week raw meat or raw chicken (that is the ONLY thing they are eating NOW. Lets see what they will choose to eat during Christmas, lol!)and the rest of the week i dont even think about them! And ive been keeping BTS for years!
If i was you i d choose an URO.I have one, a VERY tame Mali and, well, im completely in love with him! His name is MUFFIN and i can tell you that a tame URO is a gift from GOD!UROs are very funny to observe because they are a reptile, with a tortoise head that behaves like a bird! I cant stop laughing when i see my URO eating birdseed inside his millet bowl!

Keeping in my mind that there are always exceptions, the average captive-bred Australian blue-tongue is very tame, calm, healthy, curious, active, etc. Uros, again on average, tend to be flighty, cautious, and they do require high heat and low humidity to do well.
BTS are omnivores and so are quite easy to feed. Cage size need not be very big either. One thing to know and follow is that they should be kept alone -- they are not social animals. Look below in the forum to learn more about BTS and ask any other questions you may have. Below is a link to an excellent introductory site about BTS.
Good luck and kudos to you for doing the research BEFORE getting whatever animal you decide on.
