Jasmine's results on belly and hair

jasminely Oct 05, 2008 07:58 PM

Hello,

I went to he Vet today to get the results for Jasmine's biopsy. The biospy found no sign of thyroid problems. It just said that because I clipped her, her hair is in a dormant state. The vet said I can't really do anything about it. Her hair should grow back in two years. I could also see a dermatologist specialist but that would probably cost a lot of money.

As for Jasmine's rash, the vet wanted to prescribe her antibiotics but I refused to put her on antibiotics. I'm not sure if that was the right decision? I just hate it when doctors just prescribe antibiotics. The vet thinks that she is developing some sort of infection. I notice that the rash gets worse when Jasmine licks her her tummy.

I'm trying to use some natural products. It's called biologic vet. Apparently it's suppose to promote hair and healthy skin. It's an all natural product with flax seed, whole egg etc. I hope this works. Has anyone used this product? I also asked the vet if I should change her food (Preventative Medicare Formula) and the vet said no.

Thanks,

Well it's good that the thyroid result came back negative. I know that Eskie's have a full coat so your vet may be right about the coat taking 2 years to grow back in. I don't think that a dermatologist would be all that much more than a regular vet. It would be more but I wouldn't think overly so. You could always seek one out just for a consultation. It is always best to get the opinions from the experts themselves.

The antibiotics would probably be okay if your vet explains what they are for and what they do. If not don't be afraid to ask questions anytime a med is to be prescribed. What exactly is going on to make the rash on the stomach worse when she licks at it? It might just be saliva stain that you are seeing or is pink or red?

There is a holistic forum here where questions are answered by Dr. Tobin if you want to seek a natural approach to help out Jasmine. Good Luck and continue to keep us updated.

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.

Skin infections can go into internal organs and kill the dog. If the veterinarian prescribes antibiotics, I would do that for the specified length of time. Also give the dog friendly bacteria capsules you get from the refrigerated section of a health food store, to replace the friendly bacteria in the intestines. Oral antibiotics tend to kill those off, and then you get diarrhea. Friendly bacteria capsules will completely avoid that problem.

You might also want to put Alpha Keri bath oil mixed with water in a spray bottle onto the dog--every day is good. This will help protect the skin from contact with things that cause itching.

And I found it helped my dogs enormously to do the vitamin program in the book How to Have a Healthier Dog, by Belfield and Zucker. It really helps with skin sensitivity, especially combined with frequent sprays with the oil mixture.

You have to be very careful what type of bath oil you put onto a dog, because their skin cells are as sensitive as human LUNG cells. Alpha Keri is hypoallergenic.

But I would do a course of antibiotics as your veterinarian recommends. You have to get that skin infection under control. It can become so very serious otherwise.

I don't doubt it will take two years for your dog's coat to be normal again. Eskies need to be combed daily with a good comb such as a real Greyhound comb or better yet, a #1 All Systems. They should NOT be clipped.

Hello,

Thank you for the response. I opted not to use the antibiotic. I did use this anti fungal cream. I'm also giving her this supplement called bio vet ( it contains all these natural ingredients) It's great stuff. Jasmine's fur is growing a little bit and her skin rash is completely gone. I'm so glad i didn't have to rely on the oral antibiotic.

alright take care
