One Year Ago (long)

Harry, Sharon and I took a Sunday drive down to Pearl River, Louisiana. It wasn't an idle "check out the new van" drive; it had a purpose. We were going to look at a recently retired "little" white girl named Uppy's Player. It was a surprise trip in that, when Harry called on Monday because he reallllllly liked her picture on the Group website, Lesley told him that he was the nineth call about her; there were several people interested and she couldn't even be tested for cat and small animal safeness until the weekend. No big deal, we weren't interested in adopting at that point, Harry just thought Uppy's Player was a beautiful, unique hound.

Late that Saturday evening Lesley called Harry and said "She's yours if you want her". After a brief discussion, Harry called back and asked if we could arrange a 'sleepover' since we weren't sure how Pansy would react to another new Grey and a girl at that. Soooo, as I said, on Sunday we were on our way to Pearl River, LA. We picked up a gorgeous four old white girl (not that little, about Vinka-sized) and headed home after a quick visit with Lesley. On the way home we tried out names since Miz Player had not responded to any version of her racing name since she had come off the track and no one had any idea what her call name had been. We tried several names; Blance and Bianca were roundly ignored as were several other options.

We put the name question on hold when we got home and introduced our 'guest' to Katie, Pansy and Ghostwalker. She was welcomed and just like Ghost was an instant part of our pack. The name question was answered later that afternoon when Harry and Uppy's Player were in the back yard; he called her Bea and she answered by promptly coming up onto the deck straight to him.

Please join us in wishing Bea, our girly girl, a Happy First Gotcha Day. She's presently laying on a floorpillow with her head on the squirrel stuffy she got today after eating a turkey neck and liver brownies.

BTW we're sure Beatrix Potter was picked out by Miss Vinka...it's something about personalities.
