So exciting!!

We are expecting our first foster greyhound any day now having just received a call from the nationwide group where Sonny came from. Few details so far but he is a 7 year old who needs out of kennels fast. Don't know his name or colour but he is said to be a real gentleman, good with other dogs and already neutered and vaccinated, so an 'easy' one for our first time. I have never fostered with two of my own dogs already in residence so I don't know how this will go but just hoping we can help out without any major problems and see this boy through to a forever couch of his own.

Please keep your fingers crossed that this fostering goes well and heralds the start for many other hounds we will be able to help along the way.

Wonderful Sue. We have a hard time fostering here. We've failed once and succeeded once. It was very rewarding experience for us.

Fingers crossed here, Sue, but I'm sure you will be able to both teach him the ropes and let him go 'home'. The most important thing to remember is that the hound is a foster. We always believed that Amber was a foster but Harry was the only one who ever believed Max was a foster...just ask any of the longer term AOL board members. In fact, when Harry called our group director, Judy, to say we were adopting Max she told him that Max had never even been listed as available for adoption.

I'm so impressed Sue! First you go from having one grey to two, and now you're brave enough to foster. He is a lucky boy to have the chance to spend sometime with you. Good Luck!!!!

Not sure I'm brave Cindy.....stupid might be a better choice of word especially with our little minx Tru who is already practising all her bad behaviour ready to teach him when he arrives! Never had more than two dogs at a time before so this is going to be a real new experience for us.

Congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful experience...I flunked fostering, mostly because Sam helped Silly Girl come out of her shell. I think if Silly had been indifferent to Sam I could have let him go to another home, but Silly attached herself quickly!

Luckily on this site I am able to post pics (which I could never do on AOL), so I'll try to oblige when he arrives.

Sue,
How wonderful that you are going to give fostering a try. I haven't had a lot of luck here ~ but then it is probably a good thing or I would have 3 more dogs. Our first foster was a very tall brindle lurcher that Butch fell in love with. We were still VERY uneducated about Greyhounds, and that, I am sure, added to the hole in Sadie's side. Then there was Charger who tried very hard to eat Dakota when he was a pup ~ that along with trying very hard to take over the *alpha* role from Luke.. and Charger was a good deal larger than Luke. But dang, I loved that big ole boy. Cried like a baby when he left us. Then, of course, there was GiGi who put a huge tear in Dakota's shoulder.
I only hope that you don't have those kinds of experiences with your foster. I wish you nothing but a smooth transition to your home and then to an adoptive home.

Thanks for your good wishes. I'm hoping they will all get along OK as this new boy is supposed to be a real gentleman and very good with all other dogs. I've never had 3 dogs together before so I'm not sure how to grow a third hand for petting and giving out treats etc. but no doubt we will work it all out. If there are any problems it will likely be Tru who creates them as I'm sure she will take her role as the only bitch, very seriously!

I am sure things will be just fine. It is a very rewarding experience to heave foster dogs. the hard part is letting them go. Knowing they are going to loving homes does help a bit thought. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sue, good luck and have fun with your 1st foster. Fostering can be so rewarding. I love the older dogs too. They are always so sweet. I'm fostering a fiesty 2 yr. old male greyhound now. He is a handful but so funny. I've flunked fostering twice now and I've let two go to new forever homes. Flunking isn't a bad thing either. It can be very good. I have 4 greyhounds of my own plus this foster boy and it's a lot of fun trying to hand out treats with 5 needle noses in front of you. I'm at my limit now with 4 greyhounds or I'm sure we would keep this boy. But I'm sure a good forever home will come along shortly for him. Good luck and give us an update.

Just heard today our foster will be a large brindle boy called Benny....racing name Creditanshambles. His neuter stitches have just been removed so he will be coming up to us from London as soon as a transport run can be arranged. He sounds like a dream from the little info we have....but we must not be failed fosterers...we must not....we must not!!!
