help!,...my dogs coat

Hello, I am new, I have a white mini schnauzer who just turned a year. I purchased advantage from Petco and I noticed Gingers fur became very oily. I tried to rub it off, but it did not work, so I decided to wash it off. The oiliness did not go away and after a few weeks the fur became brittle, coarse and yellowish. My vet said he thinks it will never grow back properly, but it may be able to be stripped. My groomer trimmed it shorter, but was worried it would not grow back if she cut it too short. I am not sure if there is anything I can do. Is it from the advantage, I have heard that since it is over the counter at Petco it is not the same as the stuff from the vet. I had put advantage from a different tube, but same package on my Jack Russell and his fur is fine. Did I ruin Ginger's fur forever? : ( Thank you for any advice.

I'm sorry about your dog's coat. It's impossible to say what happened. I guess if it were me, I'd probably not use that lot of material any longer and I may try a different product with your dog in the future. Hopefully the coat grows out fine. Are you intending for it to have a show coat? Stripping it is the only way to get the right texture.

Thank you for your response!
I am not planning on showing her, but I just feel bad that I used a product that ruined her coat. I did throw away all meds and will never by advantage from Petco ever again, I may stop using flea meds on her totally.
So if I were to strip her, how would I do this? I am worried about stripping her as the hair is in a patch about 1" wide and 4" long, then she has two spots near the back of her neck. : (
