Hi again!

Wow, it looks like I'm not the only one who hasn't been online lately!

I'm still trying to upload photos of my hounds, but in the meantime I have another question about my BloodhoundxRedbone;
I've always heard that hounds are very vocal and loud and the neighbors always know when you have one, but Byron seems very quiet to me. True, when we picked him up from the Humane Society, he was the only dog who wasn't making some sort of noise but I chalked that up to him just being in a pound, etc.

Anyway, it's been a month now, and we still don't hear much from him, other than an occasional whine when he wants to come out of his crate, or the "Squirrel Bark" - which isn't really a bark coming from Byron, but more of a succession of whiny yelps. Other than this, not a peep from him at all!

We brought him to the vet and had him checked out and he's healthy. I walk him with my Basset Hound almost every day as well as training and playing ball, so he's not depressed.

Come to think of it, my Basset is pretty quiet as well... Am I doing something wrong?

I'd say you are probably doing something right and not something wrong. Do you really want to encourage your dogs to make unnecessary noise? Be thankful your dogs have some self control and know how to use their vocalizations at the appropriate times. Of course, I dislike loud dogs, so my opinion may be biased.

Well trust me, I'm ecstatic about the lack of noise, really! I just always kept hearing about how loud other people's hounds are, and wondered. Of course, I guess most folks also leave their hounds tied to a tree all the time too...
Maybe once winter howls in full-force and daily walks won't be possible, Byron will start making some noise!
