Does anyone remember us talking about fostering a seven year old girl about three months ago? Well, yesterday Lesley called Harry and asked us to pick up Lexie; Alice had called her and said she and her husband were finally ready. This morning we picked Lexie up; she is fawn, almost as tall as Bea, a little under weight, and a "bed person"
(in the middle of our bed as I type) ; also she is on an anti-diarrheal med, K-Pectin; Doc Berryhill says it's Kaopectate for animals. She came with a bed, several toys, heartworm preventative meds and a bag of food.
Of course she's confused and clingy but she is doing okay with our crew now. At the first meeting in the yard she didn't react well to being crowded by Pansy and Ghost and growled and snapped at them. After they backed off a little everything was fine and introductions continued...there haven't been any more cross words. We don't think she's been around other dogs in quite a while. All in all she is a sweet girl.
Lesley told Harry that Lexie was adopted from what she called a "fly-by-night" group. The paperwork her family had gave good advice on the books to read, about never letting a hound off leash unless in a fully enclosed area, acclimating to a house, sleep space agression and general advice on living with a Greyhound but that appears to be all the support they got.
We're not sure how long Lexie will be with us since it is Thankgiving Weekend but she is a foster.
