I have 2 awesome 03 aztec okeetees, that I just received yesterday. (from a super guy with gorgeous snakes ) I don't have a pic yet, but I will in the near future. (after shed)
Maybe he will post some pics of his adults.

There might have been some Okeetee influence in that cornsnake several generations ago but it has pretty much lost all but the faintest resemblance to an Okeetee. Clearly it's the offspring of a lot of outbreeding. I think it pretty much should just be called a "normal" cornsnake dont' you?

Spardawolf Oct 11, 2003 09:41 AM

I don't think that Don would mistake an okeetee for a normal. He is one of the most respected breeders in the businsess. (and besides aren't okeetee's technically considered "normal" anyway?)

Here's a pic of my two of my adult breeders. They are F1's from parents that were collected in Hardyville.

This is a second female breeder. She is from the same parents as the others but she is from another clutch. She's 2 years younger. Also, her pic was taken outdoors and the lighting does make a difference.

Here's another shot of the younger female.

Hope you like them.

Do you know the ancestory on that animal? It looks to me like one of Love's offspring. Just asking.

Horridus Oct 11, 2003 10:25 AM

Have you ever collected in Jasper? First of all there is no such thing as a "pure" Okeetee appearance, they are as variable in that locality as they are anywhere else throughout the
range. Okeetee is simply a name put on an appearance. And many animals from that area don't live up to it. (see photo)
I suppose this is a not a "pure" okeetee? "Okeetee" is just a
word that hobbyists have used to descibe a snake that has a nice orange background, bright red saddles, usually wide black borders, and orange on the last 1/2-1/3 of the ventral surface. Sure there are some animals that are spectacular animals in collections out there that have traceable origins to the hunt club area. But there are many other localities (Southeastern GA for example) where the majority of the corns you find look more like "Okeetees" than ones from the roads of ledgend in Jasper. And it's the look most people want. Especially when they see what some Haphazard road dogs look like.

I'm glad I didn't have to go through the run down, LOL.
You are so on with the actual "description" of Okeetee. There are still poeple who insist that Okeetee HAS to be from a spacific area to be considered as such.

It is as you said though in my opinion, Okeetee is a description of a spacific LOOK, deep red/orange blotch color on a deep, but rich orange ground, and for me the most looked for indication, WIDE black blotch boarders.

To me, the wider, the better !!!

I picked up this male is Daytona a couple years ago. He is from the Abbot line, of which produces some awesome Okeetees.

dude, you need to lighten up on the looks like and okeetee and doesnt look like an okeetee jive. i have been collecting there since the late 60s and have seen amazing variability of the populations on and around the plantation. i have seen dog ugly okeetees with hardly any black borders and no orange on venters,i have seen very dark okeetees,i have seen the best of the best. sure, many of those you have seen are not pure okeetees, but who are you to say-they just as easily could be. heres a pic for you. would you call that a pure okeetee? probably not. answer is: it is 100% pure, coming from breeding of a pair that directly descend from wild caughts by yours truly right in okeetee in 1989-91. what do you think now?please lighten up, howie

WOW, that's a beautiful snake! reverse Okee is the next on my list to get. Is it true they are not as tame and nice as the others can be? Can't imagine anything that beautiful having an attitude problem.
