Savannah URI treatment

woodensoul Oct 10, 2003 03:52 PM

I've taken my Savannah to the vet to treat his URI. He has bubbling in the mouth and his breathing is noisy.

What success have any had treating this? The vet prescribed a antibiotic but after one week I haven't seen much improvement. He now says to use a children's decongestant as the next step.

Has anyone been through this recently? What treatments have you found successful?

Thanks.

raise the temps you should begin to see a difference. Keep in mind that its not going to be right away. It could even take as long as a month before you see a significant improvement. Is he eating? As long as hes not so bad that hes gone off feed I would try and keep meds to a minimum and just focus on temps.

Good luck,
Michelle

He is eating well and remains curious and lively. I've got him in a 6 X 3 X 3 enclosure. The basking spot is at about 135. He spends most of his time in his burrow which is 87. He has had this condition for several months and I tried raising the temps when he was in a smaller enclosure without any results.
He seems to be fine otherwise.

Perhaps it is stress that is causing him to be ill? I have dealt with this in Niles and have seen persistance with some, even after being introduced to higher temps. I had one individual that ALWAYS seemed to be a little bit congested. It would be better at times, and worse at others. Perhaps you are just going to have to adapt to this particular critter, and try and find its individual comfort zone. Try more hides, and see if his stress level decreases.

I could be way off, but personally, I would try and eliminate less than ideal environmental influences before loading the poor little guy up on drugs. Ya know?

Good luck!
Im sure youll figure it out!

Is his basking spot out in the open?? You may want to make a plywood multi-level stack so he can get all hot n toasty in privacy.
