raw feeding with kidney

cjrun2 Jan 25, 2009 04:18 PM

I have a PH age 4, who was recently diagnosed with acute kidney disease and has stuvite crystals. Of course the first line of action is the vet wanting to put her on Hills S/D or K/d.

However this is not an option for me. so began my research to try to find some other solution.

first line of fire was to dissolve the crystals, The goal is to lower, levels of calcium, magnesium and phosphate to balance the PH level in the pee.

My current course of action, ascorbic acid, a homeopathic called stone solve, and a ph balancer by Wysong. along with herbs of cranberry, marshmallow and echinashia, to relive the painful pee pee'. I cheek the ph levels with strips daily, and have seen some progress.

Now comes the change of the diet, I have been a raw feeder for 9 years multiple dogs various diet. So my question is if any one out there has pointers on how to have a complete diet with a low protein, magnesium, calcium and phosphate.

with Kidney disease it is recommended to reduce protein. however, what I learned is to lower the levels of animal source protein, as the kidney can not brake down the amino acids or the phosphorus causing the calcium forming crystals.

so, a plant based protein has less amino acids and the biological value is less, thus not as taxing on the Kidneys.

I have comprised a list of veggies based on highs and lows of protein, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium, sodium.

my problem is I do not know percentages needed to stay under or how to figure these percentages. Any suggestion or experience in doing this? or books to reccommend.

Your goals are to get rid of the crystals, get rid of bacteria, and get your dog over the acute kidney disease. This is done by giving d-mannose for the bacteria, pureeing his food with an equal part of water, and adding salt, in order to dilute the urine. Feed him pureed raw beef kidneys or cheap, fatty hamburger, again raw, but NOT vegetable protein, as you want high quality protein. An amino acid from a plant is the same as an amino acid from an animal, but the protein from an animal is of better quality since the mix of amino acids is closer to the needs of a dog. Feeding meat will place the pH of the uring in the 6.0-6.5 range needed to dissolve the stones.

Thank you.

do you have a recommendation regarding for a long term diet.

She has been a raw eater for all her life, However she was having some weird behaviors that happen after a meal, It was suggested to cook the meat, which did tone the behavior,

Previous her diet consisted on 3/4 meat 1/4 veggies sometimes a starch. along with rotating vitamin nutritionals. standard process, missing link, omga 3,

diet rotated ingredients frequently.
