We had a new addition to our family the middle of November. A beautiful little white girl with blue brindle patches. She was 2, would be 3 on Christmas day. We named her Lola and she immediately claimed our hearts. There was one thing strange about her though, we would let her out in the yard in the morning and she simply would not come back into the house on her own. One day she was out there almost 8 hours and the temperature didn't get above 27º. I had a broken ankle and then I also had a toe amputated and Darrell was scheduled to have back surgery. We couldn't find an answer to our problem because neither of us would be physically able to go out and bring her back in so we made the gut-wrenching decision to take her back for re-adoption. We took her and the director said she would take her back but that she absolutely would not put her up for adoption. She would hold her until we could come back for her. The last words we heard from her were, "don't worry, she'll be here for you." This made us feel better until I got this e-mail from her on February 7th:
hey della, you will be happy I hope to know that one of my good friends from blacksburg VA came today to adopt cuzzin nanabelle, they fell in love with carrie too, and she loved them, there two ladies that have had my greys for about 10 yrs. she will have a really good home, one is a dr and the other one is home all the time......I know it makes you sad,,,,,,but be happy that she got a really good home......
My heart is broken. I still haven't responded to her. I am just so sad because she fit right in with our pack and we fell so in love with her.
Sorry, but I just had to share with somebody who would understand. Non-Greyhound people just don't get it.
