Today, February 25, is the fifth Gotcha of Dakota T Roo. Here is a recap of February 2004............
The first week, of February 2004, we were offered a male greyhound pup ~ we declined. Then pictures came of this pup ~ we still declined with adamant *NO PUPPY* coming from Butch. Then we met his brother on February 7. Shirley, Mom to this pup wanted Butch to hold him, Butch declined but Shirley put him into Butch's arms, that adorable pup snuggled up against Butch's neck and gave him kisses and chewed on his ear and Butch was charmed and hooked ~ magic puppy breath. Butch told Shirley yes, that the pup would be our Valentines gift to each other. Shirley called Lisa, who was fostering the pups, and was told that there was another family interested in him so we we were in limbo. The one hope we had was that the other family had new carpeting and new furniture, and although the wife wanted him, the hubby was saying no. *Our* pup was to go there, with Lisa, for a weekend home visit. During that period of *limbo*, I had a lot of doubts niggling at my brain and wavered quite a few times, however, when the call came on February 24 that *Rudy* was ready to come home and meet his new Mommie, we were ready to go. I had to work the following day, had just started a new job and didn't know if they would think that driving to Toledo to get a puppy was a good reason to call off at the last minute, so Butch went to get him. The rest is history, laughter, patched furniture, a lot of *adbenshures* and a lot of love. Here is what Kianna posted the first night that *Rudy* was home.

We have a baby!! Dad left early this morning and was gone most of the day... and came home with a wee little Greyhound.... with HUGE feet and in need of some manners, although he isn't doing too bad... he has only walked on my face a couple of times. In fact, right now he is asleep here by the computer. He ran in the yard with Luke and I and then with Jessie. He is really cute... he is white with blue fawn patches...did I mention the BIG feet?? By the time Mom got home from work he had rearranged all of the throw rugs and completely charmed my Gramma. I think Dad is charmed too. <G> He came with the name Rudy, but Mom has given him a "temporary" name of Dakota. She said that his personality will name him. I think Dad has a very special name for him...He keeps calling him Little Sh__. Boy, he sure can curl into a tiny ball.... I am sure that I will have more stories to tell after he wakes up again.
He is 9 (almost 10) weeks old (born 12/21) and weighs :::gulp:::: 15 pounds.

The following day when we were trying out the name *Cruiser* .....
Butch has been chuckling all day.... Cruiser watching the big guys run and going after them only to run smack into the fence.... Cruiser showing off his skating skills on the newly wet, mopped floor .... Cruiser helping mop the floor by chasing the mop ...... Cruiser leaping straight up in the air and pasting his ears to his head when he made the screaming monkey scream .... Cruiser being all brave and barking at the rottie next door ~ until he realized that Luke had moved and was no longer standing right beside him ..... Cruiser peeing outside and running for his life when the fence tried to attack him (it wobbled when Charger rubbed his face on it) ...Cruiser feeling the need to decorate his crate with poop every single time he is put in there...And...Cruiser sleeping through the night... all night.. his very first night here.
And on February 28 his was christened with his final and permanent name.. Dakota Tigger Roo Blumenauer.
We love you baby.. I wouldn't trade the past 5 years for anything... you have brought so much laughter and love to us.
Happy Fifth Gotcha Day Dakota T Roo.....
