Hound Dog Howlidays

Grhndad Mar 29, 2009 03:57 PM

The first day and a half may have been a weather bust but Saturday afternoon and today have been a blast. we had an outdoor dinner last night and an auction. I bid on some items and lost but spent way to much on the two items that I did buy, two coats. One for Ghost and one for Bea.

Today at the track was a lot of fun. Quite a number of vendors so there was a lot of shopping. All of the kids walked the track a little. Ghost and Bea entered the sprint. Miss Bea did OK, 35MPH. Ghost was the second fastest at 42 MPH. Three tied for first at 43MPH. Not bad for that big boy. The downer is that a hound was hurt during the sprint run. About 5 yards into the run, it pulled up but finished on three legs. Don'tknow if it broke a leg os popped a ligament. Everyone that was standing there but me heard it pop. They put a splint on and took it to the E-vet. Miss Katie, Pansy and Lexie took the senior stroll around the whole track. Miss Lexie wasn't happy as she wanted to do the sprint.

Right now we have 5 tired poopers and a tired Mom and Dad. we'll head for home tomorrow AM.

We will come back next year.

Harry,
Being the paranoid Mom that I am after what happened to Kianna, I totally dropped the thought of lure coursing for Dakota. He is fast and can take corners almost on his side, but now it scares the crap out of me. But they do, so, enjoy running.
Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend. Glad that the weather decided to cooperate with you and give you a couple of decent days. Have a safe trip home.

About those coats Harry mentioned: Bea's is a very pretty clear pink with ribbon-wrapped hearts printed on it and the proceeds from that coat and one other are going to Dr. Couto at Ohio State! Ghost's coat is made from a real US Navy uniform and comes complete with a real sailor collar and a command indentification badge on the "shoulder".

I know all of you would have gotten a real kick out of what the first girl who ran in the Fun Run did. (Quick set up: the fun run started several yards before the start/finish line where a trainer released the hound and the end of the running area was at the first turn and the catch area was marked with an section of orange plastic fencing across the track behind the 'catch crew' and the hound's human.) That didn't please this little girl at all; when she reached that point, she dodged humans, jumped over the 'fence', knocking one side down then she caught her balance and continued running (beautifully) until she reached the finish line again...she stopped there and looked very pleased with her self. She also got a big round of applause.

BTW Harry forgot to mention that Ghost Walker was the oldest hound to run the the fun run; he barely 'qualified' since he turns seven a week from today. He did Greyt for a guy who was almost too old.

Dogs and cats come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.
