Got the test results

kona63 Mar 30, 2009 07:27 PM

We got the test results tonight for Kaia. Fasting Bile Acide test was at the high side of normal. Test after eating is slightly elevated its 18 when the max should be 15. So we are still going to take Kaia to Cornell. The reason for this, is he may not be able to process meds or anistiatia. So its time to make an apptointment for Cornell. I am glad it's not as sever as we were led to believe.

Well okay some progress is being made. Doesn't sound like you have all of the answers yet but are gaining on it. I'm sure Cornell will be able to help you out for sure.

I'll be keeping good thoughts for your sweet Kaia. I'm glad it's better than you were led to believe. As I think you know, our Murphy has kidney issues, so I know how you are feeling. He was diagnosed at 7 months, and will turn 3 in May. A special diet was all that was needed to keep him healthy and happy. His last test showed all levels were in normal range. One was high normal, but still normal!

Brrrr!

Bile Acids 6.8 fasted reference range is less than 7.0 umol/l
Bile Acids 18.6 after eating range is less than 15.0 umol/l. So what does this tell? Well there is something wrong but still not sure. Like Murphy it may be controlled by diet or meds depending on what it is. Our former vet does not think surgery will be needed to correct it. The big concern on why we need to figure out what is going on is Kaia may have problems processing meds and or anestitia if needed. So Bob you may want to warn Cornell that an other Shiba will be coming there way... lol

Will do Dave I'll be there Thursday. They should be able to get things figured out for both you and Kaia.

Those numbers aren't terrible. I'm glad the problem isn't as serious as originally thought although not having a full answer to what is going on is still frustrating. Hopefully Cornell will be able to get to the bottom of things. I know my vet has made off handed comments about shibas in general being a bit "odd" with liver values. I never really gave it much thought though until recently. I will ask for clarification on Monday when I see her (annual visit).
