My wife and I got married in June this past summer. For our honeymoon we drove up to Colorado and had a great time. On the way back we drove through New Mexico and in the middle of the highway there was a little puppy be harassed by another dog. We stopped our car and both dogs ran into an older man's yard. After several minutes of discussing we approached the gentleman and asked if the puppy was his dog. It wasn't his and he was surprised that we wanted it. So we named him Navje because we found him near a Navajo reservation. The interesting thing about the name is that the same word in German is the slang term for GPS system and the only reason we came home the way we did was because we followed the navigation system.
Anyways now that he is full grown we are curious to try and find out what possible breed(s) he is. I know it is probably impossible for sure to know since he was found near a reservation, I figured someone on here might have some good ideas.
As far as his personality goes he is very, very smart. He loves to nip at shoes and feet, especially if you are walking up and down stairs or if you are a guest in our home. He is very playful and loves to chase squirrels. He even tries to climb trees to get to them! He learns very quickly and is quite affectionate. When we take him for runs, on the way home he always knows when we are close to home and will go right up to the door of our apartment. When he plays, he uses his paws a lot and pinches the skin with his front teeth. Another weird habit of his is that he like to chew on our arms like he is chewing on an ear of corn. He does it very gently and its almost like he is trying to groom us or something.
So what do you think? Some people have suggested that he is red healer and huskie... others have even suggested part coyote. Something you may not be able to tell from the pictures is that his coat is two-toned. On top it is black but if you pull the hair back, underneath it is brown. If we shaved him I think we would have an all brown dog - is that a particular trait of some breed of dog?
