All About the Shiba 101 - Professor Beni

Hello All!
Here is the second part to my Beni story.....
Beni made sure that I would not mistaken him for just any kind of dog.
He immediately got to work to help me understand that a Shiba is an extremely clever master of disguise.
1. On one of our first walks, ( in the pouring rain), he decided enough was enough and he wasn't going to take another step, so he turned into a jelly fish right before my eyes! No bones, sprawled out, belly exposed....(a woman even pulled over and asked if I needed help)...I gave him a few quick belly rubs, and that seemed to do the trick - but then....
2. Beni turned into a mule! That stubborn boy decided he liked those belly rubs and wouldn't move until he got about 20 more - when he was satisfied he jumped up, curly tail tight, and (I swear) the biggest Shiba smile you have ever seen. This is one of his favorites so he turns into a jellyfish/mule whenever we get to specific spots on our walks.
3. Of course we all know about the selective hearing (his old man disguise),
but how about the Tweezer disguise, (This one has to do with pulling out one stray
arm hair when he feels the need for attention), or
4. The Jack in the Box (standing still and "popping up" into the air -(sometimes making a complete circle if he's really startled). He also has a spring in his bottom - whenever he starts to howl at another dog I try to have him sit, but that spring always make him "pop" back up - after about 5 "pops" he finally settles down.
5. I haven't seen The Crab for a while (arms & legs spread apart, belly almost touching the ground, ears back, and running like crazy - sometimes even sideways), but I did recently get a visit from
6. The Gymnast (usually on the weekend or vacation mornings when I want to sleep in) - Beni on the balance beam - (me), nose 1 inch from my face, staring intently until I open my eyes and get up......

I feel I am just warming up, but I realize this is way too long, so I will say "Goodbye", and look forward to hearing from all of you about your wonderful Shibas soon...
Kari entering our lives and completing our family will be next.....
Until then remember... Curly Tails Rule!!!

Patty, these descriptions are so funny! You do, indeed, have a shiba. When Artemis was a puppy, she used to pick up cigarette butts off the ground when we were walking and let them dangle (James Dean-style) out the corner of her mouth. She doesn't do it anymore though!

Too funny!

What wonderfully spot on descriptions of my little beasts - er I mean Shibas
