New Beni update

Shboom May 07, 2009 12:56 PM

I took Beni to Cornell today for his monthly checkup. Once again he had a great visit. He did very well with the tear and stain test and his occular pressure reading was 8... right in the same area it's been in since he had the second glaucoma valve inserted.

The doctors there continue to be impressed with his progress and there are alway a few of the technicians that stop by when they know he is there. I was taken a little by surprise in a good way when Dr. Ledbetter mentioned that the scarring in the eye had ceased months ago. This was one thing that has always worried me since it was the scarring that had pushed the first valve off if his eye back on New Year's night in 08. I asked why that was and there really wasn't a definitive answer.. it could have been because of the laser surgery that was also incvolved with the second valve proceedure or the glaucoma managment... they just aren't sure.

Dr Ledbetter mentioned to me that Beni could go a few weeks farther down the road between visits maybe in the 6-8 week range. He was thinking more of it being a bother for me though he mentioned the charges are less for the frequent visits. I told him at this point in time with the thousands of dollars I have spent on Beni that an office charge was not even a consideration and it only takes me 50 minutes to get there. I also said the 4 week schedule puts me more at ease since I don't have access to the equipment they have and this way if something changes deep in the eye they can catch it quicker.

I'm always happy to read these good reports, Bob! That's a special time you have with Beni, I think. I also think Beni knows what a very good Dad he has!

Yep, Beni's Dad does take good care of him......just like you do of me, when you get my blood tests!

Bob...I've been watching for your report! Happy to hear Beni is doing so well. Last week our report was okay. He did not gain any weight, but I can't complain ...he didn't lose any either

The vet is still wanting to find a different food he can eat. We just tried Californis Natural lamb rice...won't work. Today I got a bag of Wellness simple solutions venison and rice...we'll see. Not much left to try.

Give your Million Dollar Baby Miracle dog a hug!!! And kudos to you for all you have done for Beni!

For how long this week seems to be (will it ever end?)...I so look forward to coming home and reading about all of your wonderful Shibas and you. YEAH for Beni!!! And, Bob, ...YEAH for you, too!!! It truly was destiny that put you two together. After all you have been through, you must truly have an AWESOME relationship. I will be looking forward to another posting of events from you and everyone out there. Until then, wishing you all a wonderful evening filled with (of course) belly rubs, shiba smiles, curly tails, wonderful smells, and sweet dreams.

When we picked Murphy up from daycamp this week there was an adorable little shiba girl in the store. She was waiting for her puppy class to begin and we got to visit with her mom and dad for a minute. Mika is 6 months old and absolutely so sweet! We hardly ever see shibas in our area, but there are two shiba boys that Murphy plays with quite often, in camp.

Whatever was troubling him, a couple months ago, has entirely left his mind. He can hardly contain his impatience to get into the play room, stays all day, eats all his food, and comes out with this look of contentment (and exhaustion LOL) at the end of his day. I guess knowing he can "go to his room" anytime he's had enough was all it took.

Yep, I know if I get really tired, all I have to do is ask to go rest!

Winona thanks! As for Asher that is like saying no news is good news. Not losing any weight is what I would consider to be a victory!

I use the Wellness Simple Solutions for my three dogs because of Toshi's allergies. I've used it for years and all three have done very well on it. I alternate between the venison and the duck just for variety. That might not work for Asher but hopefully he will do well on this food.

Hugs given to my Miracle Dog and now sending those back to your own Million Dollar Baby!

Could there be a luckier dog? Really could there? I am so glad that Beni is continuing to do well and that you are there for him every step of the way.

A P.S. to My Message,

I'm with you...a 50 minute trip is such a short trip, especially if it means being able to ensure a healthier, happier Beni....Have a relaxing and restful evening!
