Relaxing at the vets!!

Ragsysmum May 22, 2009 08:54 AM

Yesterday I took Tru to the vets for her annual check up and boosters. After he had finished we were chatting as ours was the last appointment.....Tru laid down on the tiled floor and fell asleep! David the vet said, open the door and she'll be up like a shot and pulling to get out.....but no! She laid there like a log and had to be woken up and persuaded to move. She has a clean bill of health and the vet reckons she is perfectly normal for her age......but I have my doubts!! How many other people's hounds are so relaxed at the vets that they settle down for a sleep I wonder?

Sue, None of mine are that relaxed at the vets. In fact they get stressed out there. They don't even like to walk in the door. A little story. This past Monday Ghost had a vet appointment for his annual, When we got there he jumped out of the van, saw where we were and jumped right back in again. He did that 3 times before I could get the door closed. He was not a happy camper. He was good for the vet though.

Oh Sue, Tru certainly doens't have any reservations about her *bet*, does she? I had Dakota and Kylie in for their yearly checkup and Kylie was all excited to go in the car, jumped out all excited saw where we were and was right back in the car. She refused to get out ~ she leaped into the front and dug in. I had to take Kota into the office and have the receptionist hold him while I went to pry Ky from the car. Wonder if she and Ghost are related? They look enough alike....

Hi Sue - Tru does sound like she is really a calm, relaxed dog, although she does get in trouble at home sometimes, right?

She more than gets into trouble Donna. She has been here just over a year now and she drives me mad at least some part of every day!! She really is the most stubborn, irritating, disobedient and totally 'couldn't care less' dog I have ever had. At least my Sonny Sunshine is just the best boy you could have and our foster hound Benny is a lovely boy too so I suppose I shouldn't really grumble too much.

We have always been lucky with our dogs and vets and they have all been OK or even actually loved going there for the cuddles and treats they get.....famous last words maybe as Benny hasn't needed to go there yet!

Sue.. LOL.. are you trying to say that Tru is a bit if a b*^#h??? Sadie could be like that ~ not always, but she sure did have her moments... hours... days... But then she would turn around and come over for a pet. But she knew what she wanted and only did what she wanted to do or thought was not beneath her. She was a pro at giving the *doggie finger*.

My experience is.. when the greyhound is passed out like that.. with all the commotion all around them, someone comes up and says something like.."I heard greyhounds were hyper"... uh huh... and I point to the dog.

That is a very cute story... Its really good for you that the visit to the doggy doctor isn't stressful.

My girls were typically basket cases at the vets, but did ok. I love my vet. The first thing he does when he comes into the room is shake hands with me, then sits on the floor and loves on the dogs. They would end up leaning on him as he is sitting on the floor with his back to the wall. He does this, then examines the dog. I like the way he tries to get the animal comfortable before he examines them.

I know mine don't relax. Lana is ok, but very alert, we wait in the car with Markie and the doctor has told me that Brooke tenses up so much that he has a hard time feeling anything in there...
Good for Tru!
