Sharp Puppy Nails!!

TyJillWrangler May 29, 2009 10:15 AM

We have a 3 month old Mini Australian Shepherd . He's very playful and has the best temperment of any dog I could imagine. We have nearly no issues with anything except the occasional poddying in the house, which hasn't happened nearly as much anymore. He also is not good in the crate but we can leave him out safely and he won't have accidents. Other than that he is perfect. He does get excited and piddles sometimes and we are just wondering if that is because of his age. The only major problem we really have is his little puppy nails. They are so sharp! My boyfriend and I have cuts on our hands and arms and it really hurts. I'm wondering when it is safe to clip his nails safely? I don't want to hurt him. Also, as there was news on the news about dangerous flea and tick solutions. We gave our puppy his first dose of Frontline the other day and then heard the story that some flea and tick solutions can make dogs very sick and sometimes kill them and I'm wondering if Frontline is safe? I always thought it was like number one vet prescribed. Thanks for any information! This is our first Aussie so I'm sure I'll have more questions !

-You can and should start getting your pup used to having his feet and nails done as early as possible. So go ahead and clip away. You may want to go to your vet and have them show you how the first time just so you know how ot do it correctly.

flea and tick solutions- Frontline is one of the better flea and tick products out there. Just make sure you are using the correct dose and chat with your vet on how frequently they recommend it be administered. It certainyl should not be more than once a month, but sometimes certain areas can go longer between doses as well.

Have fun with your new puppy!
