Ayla not feeling good

deetu Jun 01, 2009 11:11 PM

Yesterday and today she has been throwing up. Bile for the most part and a little of yesterday's dinner. Not constantly, just enough that you think she is better then... urp. Three times yesterday and four today.

Vet's office said to give some Pepto. She didn't like it. Pink all over her face. Called back to see what I should do about feeding her and they said not to, to give her intestines a rest... only ice cubes. She was so good, no begging or crying.

She is acting normal otherwise. Temperature is normal. Peeing and pooping normal. Running around and playing, maybe a little less then normal but still active.

I had made some bait for ants out of Boric Acid and some spilled on the floor but I cleaned it up. I hope it wasn't that.

I pray that it is over now.

Ah poor little Ayla. If she is not feeling better today you can ask your vet for Tagamet and a can of RD. You can make a little meatball out of the RD and put the Tagamet pill inside.
The Tagamet works better than Pepto to calm the stomach and the RD will firm up her stool or you can cook steamed rice with just a small amount of chicken.
I use boric acid and corn starch on the faces of my dogs, and I know from experience that it is very caustic to the stomach a small amount can really get their tummy upset, if she got a small amount on her paw and then licked it that might be the culprit or it might be something totally unrelated. In any case I hope she feels better today!

Ayla is allergic to chicken and beef so I don't think she can have RD. I had some really old rice in the house but didn't feel comfortable cooking it up. I use the rice in the box with the pilaf in it and since she is also allergic to wheat...

She had diaharra last night with mucus in it. No blood, thank you Lord.

I fed her some lamb, giving her little pieces at a time, not all at once, over an hour. And limiting her water intake.
She threw it up.

Called the vet this morning. We have an appointment in an hour. I'll ask her about the Tagamet.

Oh dear, Dee...sorry you have to take Ayla to the vet. Let us know what the vet has to say. My prayers are with you.

Believe it or not, the vet was happy that Ayla had diaharra saying that shows that it has gone through her system and it's not a blockage. She said she felt some tenderness which is to be expected but not anything that would be her Pancreaus (sp?)
or something worse.

She said there was new medication that stops vomiting and eases the intestine but didn't think she really needed it. When she said to give chicken or chopmeat with rice, I told her I had goat chopmeat and she put her head down, shaking it and started laughing saying most clients don't have goat meat in their freezer.

So I am to baby her with really small amounts of food and water throughout the day instead of big feedings. Ayla liked her goat and rice, looking for more but will have to wait for an hour.

Thank you for your prayers. I tell God she is so special to me but He already knows that and I believe she will be fine.

I guess goat is ok as long as you keep it 76% rice, the rice binds the stool.

Lamb is too rich just give her some rice, you can roll it into little balls, just plain rice nothing in it.
She needs Tagamet or Metronitizole from the vet.

I have been giving her goat and rice (see above post), about 3 tablespoons every hour and she has been holding that down and looking for more.

I didn't know lamb was rich. would venison or rabbit be better?

Tagamet is no longer under patent so you can buy it at Wally World or probably anyplace cheaper than the vet. Becker takes Famotidine and we were getting them from the vets. They were costing $18.19 with a multi dog discount of $2.00 for 30 tablets. Little did we know we could get them over the counter at Wally World. We can get 90 tablets for something around $7.00 or a little more. I think you can guess where we now buy them.

Yea, she did say she doesn't carry it and you can get them at the store.
I don't blame you Gary. Funny thing though, the eye drops for my cat was the same thing as my husband and if we didn't have prescription plan, it would have been alot more money for his then the cat from the vet.

Yeah that is true why can they make animal drugs so cheaply but the same drugs for us are more expensive.
You can get doggie thyroid levoxothrine for $10 for 250 caplets but my same thyroid meds are $20 a month for 30 pills. I spoke to my friend who is a pharmycist told me they are exactly the same thing. So off I went to my doctor and asked him guess what same drug.

Dee,

Sounds like allergies to me, especially if she is ok in between. Did you try some benadryl, that's what I use to use with Bee.
Let us know how she is ((Hugs)).

No poop either but we'll deal with that later if we have to.

I fed her alot of small (I mean real small) goat and rice meals throughout the day. At the end of yesterday, she was begging for a treat which she had no interest in the day before.
Tomorrow I'll start introducing her regular food in with the goat and rice but I think the worst is over.

Gave her a quick clipping and bath today. Couldn't stand the smell of vomit and poo on her. I don't think she liked it either because she came willingly up to me when I told her the water was ready.

Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts.
Ayla loves you all!

Awww, thanks guys, you're the best.

Now she's having a new problem. She will jump up and run as if someone pulled her tail and scared her. She usually does that when her anal glands pop. I shaved her butt but didn't think I got too close but I put some neosporin on just in case. She now keeps sitting, which she will do when she has poop stuck to her butt. I looked and the whole area looks irratated now, like a rash. If it's not better tomorrow, it's back to the vet.

She also hasn't pooped yet but the vet said that didn't surprise her and not to worry unless it's more then 5 days.
She is making some stinky farts though... phuuu!
