Beni had another good visit...

Shboom Jun 04, 2009 01:07 PM

Beni made out really well again at Cornell today. So much so that the doctor talked me into going 8 weeks before his next visit. I was keeping him on a 4-5 week schedule. It makes me a bit nervous but things have been going so well with Beni that there isn't much to add to his history. They know I'll keep a good eye on him. He tested well on the tear test and the stain test showed no scratches or other problems. His occular pressure measured at 10 which again with the valve and the meds is excellent.

On the other side of things... he did develop a slight limp over the last couple of days. He could have tweaked something chasing the birds in the yard or maybe I trimmed his nails to close the other day. It doesn't seem to bother him... just something noticable to me.

I love ending my day on a good note...YEAH for your BENI!!!!
I think he is seeing those birds so clearly that that is what happened-
he went for those critters and tweaked a muscle....his shiba instinct may
have went into overdrive, and the puppy in him came out!!!

If possible, I'd love to see pics of your yard - Finger Lakes sounds like such an idyllic
spot - very natural, spacious, and lovely!

Patty here are some photos I took a few years ago. Not much has changed since then except the trees are a little bigger. If you look at a map of NY the FingerLakes are right in the center. Surrounding the lakes is mostly farmland and around a couple of them are some of the finest vineyards in the country.

If you look closely you can see two of the dogs way back under one of the pines...

This one was taken from the opposite corner where the dogs were standing...

I'm happy to hear Beni had another good visit! At our house, Asher seems to be at a standstill. He lost 1 1/2 lbs.time before last and only gained 1/10th. of a pound back.

His blood profile was good so the vet is not sure what the problem could be. I think it's because all 3 dogs were eating acorns in the side yard. Since it's been raked 4 times, we had no other option but to close it off.

I hope Beni's leg will be okay...these dogs sure keep us busy with their antics.

Winona just wondering with the nicer weather has Asher been more active? Just thinking if that could be keeping his weight in check? I can believe that acorn tree has to be a pain... also thinking those acorns may not be much good for the dogs! Don't blame you for closing off that part of the yard. Keeping all fingers and paws crossed here for your million dollar baby!

Bob...all 3 dogs have been very active. Chasing chipmunks. We think that might be one of the reasons for Asher's weight loss. Bari has lost so much weight we had to increase his food. Another good reason to close the side yard...stops some of the running.

Happy to hear Beni is no longer limping. Ginger was limping today. I think from jumping off the deck...in hot pursuit of a chipmunk.

Amanda I don't think I noticed the limp today but I was pretty busy and the dogs didn't go for a walk. Still though when I was paying attention I don't think I noticed it.

Bob -

Always good news to hear that Beni had a good visit and his limp seems to be improving.

Oh yea - Patrick says he would "die" for a backyard the size of yours. Your backyard is bigger than some of the dog parks he goes to in NYC.

Bill it's a good sized backyard and Patrick would be welcome anytime. It's plenty big enough for a Shiba romp! Dave(Kona63) doesn't live that far from me and his backyard is bigger yet!!

Speaking of Dave..........Have I missed something or has it been a really long time since Dave posted? Hope everything is OK!

Yeah, Mom, I've been wondering how Kaia is doing with his new diet!

Not just Dave... the whole board has gone quiet. There were times not long ago when it was difficult to keep up with the posts. But speaking of Dave... yeah it's been a while since he or Joanne have posted.

In checking back, I don't think we've heard from Dave or Joanne for a couple of months, at least! Can you call him?

My Beni and Kari echo Patrick's thoughts - your backyard is definitely Shiba Paradise!
In our smaller yard my Beni has become quite adept at weaving in and out of the plants, turning corners, and completing 360s on the ground, all with Kari in hot pursuit.... Even though he's 8 he's still a puppy at heart ( My Kari does a great job keeping him frisky!) It must be great when your Beni, Keiko, and Toshi get together with their Shiba and non Shiba pals in your spacious bit of heaven!

I hope Beni"s limp has disappeared, and he's in full chasing form!

I love this subject line--and the thought that Beni continues to do well. Yay!
