I have a new buddy, Peanut

GARYS Jun 05, 2009 10:16 PM

No not another pup but a little red Fox squirrel. I've been tempting him with peanuts and have finally gotten him to take a couple out of my fingers. He will now come up to our storm door and look in wanting to be fed. Now if the pups would only shut their mouths when he comes to the door, things would go smoother.
Just call me Jack Hanna.

That's really neat Gary. I love little squirrels. Once I had a squirrel friend in Ohio, he learned to take chucky peanut butter off a plastic spoon. He would come to my sliding glass door and wait for me to come out on the patio of my ground floor apartment. The problem was that when I went away for a few days he trashed the screen to the slider and I had to take down the screen door and stop feeding him because my land lord had a fit.

Oh dear, Denice I can see why your landlord was a wee bit annoyed with you. Your little squirrel friend must have been annoyed as well. LOL

That makes me think of the crazy song Ray Stevens had out a number of years ago about the squirrel that went bersek in the Baptist Church down in Missippi. Or something like that. They can do a lot of damage if they get inside your home.

They sure can cause damage, Gary. A couple of years ago, some skunks got in the attic of my cottage through some vents. Mom had her babies there and they did a job on the insulation in the attic. Luckily, no major damage was caused but it could have been. The vents are now wired so they can't get in.

They sure can be distructive, Gary. I just had to remove some of the insulation but a neighbor had it happen and they got into the main part of the house and caused more damage. I had a bigger critter come down the chimney once but apparently went back up without causing any damage thank goodness. Except for some very black footprints in the bath tub, I never would have known it was in the house. <G> I did put a wire covering over the top of the chimney after that incident. I never though of any critter going straight up the side of the house.

Oh my goodness, Gary. They'll be showing you on TV before long. LOL Just make sure that the little red squirrel doesn't mistake your finger tip for the peanut.

Oh Gary, Nicky would go crazy if a squirrel came up to my door! If he sees them run up the tree, he runs to the window and barks like crazy! LOL

Tootles went crazy yesterday and charged the door barking and scratching and he took off and haven't seen him since. That's tootles for you, can't keep her mouth shut. Maybe I can lure him back as he was getting pretty tame.

Have you been able to lure Peanut back, Gary?. I was thinking about you and Peanut today as I watched the squirrels running around my backyard. I've also noticed little dirt holes. I wonder if they're digging up small grubs.

No, I haven't been able to lure him back. I think they are digging up some of their hidden nuts. At least that is what they are doing around here.

I had a bird feeder at the Cape and the squirrels use to empty it on me each day. I finally got some seed that they didn't like and things improved. LOL
