Ticks are bad enough

deetu Jun 13, 2009 10:07 PM

But last night I found a flea! I had put a natural flea spray on her. She shouldn't have had the flea, never mind more ticks. Ugggh!! Guess when it is natural, you have to spray them every time you go outside.

Yesterday, I said to my husband, "Lets open up the pool" He said that we should probably fix the wall first because the pump would be in the way. Water and chipmunks had destroyed it. So, here we are, in 80 degrees in the sun, fixing the wall. Ayla watched. Stopped when I couldn't do anymore (it's like putting a puzzle together) This morning woke up to more rain. They said it was going to be nice... Pouring rain mind you. We had a little break, went out and did more. Ayla layed on the barrior cloth with her head resting on the roll. It was so cute, wish I had my camera. Rained again and washed out all the gravel inbetween the rocks. I still had the barrior cloth opened so I shoved it under the rocks, put chunks of grass on it and will see how it looks tomorrow.

Hey, at least will all this rain, the pool got filled the rest of the way. Hope we get to use it this summer.

Gee, what did you use on Ayla for the bugs? Becker and Tootles both have a skin reaction to the stuff from the vets. Have some Dawn soap to give them a bath in.

I hear what you're saying, Dee....join the rain club. I thought that we were going to have a nice, sunny day today but it didn't take long to cloud up. It's not raining but it sure looks like it going to start any minute. I guess my lawn won't be mowed today nor will all the junk I had cleaned out from the south side of my house. Oh well, it can't rain forever.....can it? LOL

Gary have you tried Neem shampoo it is natural and kills fleas and it won't dry out the skin as much as Dawn.
They sell some natural spray stuff at Wally world but I don't know how well it works. It has Neem in it as well.
We are having to dose the Lab with frontline plus every 2 weeks instead of once a month, the ticks are awful here this time of year and we also buy the Frontline Spray it works pretty well and doesn't leave that oily spot on the shoulders. The Shih Tzu don't seem to have anything on them so far, but Annie runs out to the woods to potty and she seems to pick up ticks, mainly on her ears, we spray that frontline spray into a cotton ball and rub it on the inside flap of her ears each time before she goes out now and that seems to help. expensive but working.

Denice, I was thinking about ticks with all this rain that we've been having but I think it's been raining too much for even them to make a showing since I haven't found any on Katie but then again, she's not out long enough to pick them up. Not being able to mow the real wet grass won't help either.

Oh Gary, please don't say that. It's difficult to even get the lawn mowed with this rainy pattern we've been having. Give the grass a day to dry out and it's raining again the next day. LOL About the only good thing I can say is that the grass is nice and green. We had a nice day today and they're predicting another nice one for tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it.

This morning I pulled three deer ticks off her nose. Two on the top, one on the side.
Yesterday I put some of the spray on my hand and rubbed her belly and legs. There wasn't alot on her I guess.

The natural stuff is Nature's Guardian by Sergeants. I guess Sergeants isn't the greatest stuff but since it was natural.
Peppermint oil
cinnamon oil
lemon grass oil
clove oil
thyme oil
other ingredients:
(this is usually where they hide the bad stuff)
vanlin (hard to read)
isopropilmyrstate2-propanol (isppropyl alcohol)

Hum... hazards to humans and domenstic animals...
Yea, here it says to get spray to skin but not saturate. She really doesn't like the smell. I can see spraying a big dog down well but she is so close to the ground as it is.
I think it smells nice...

You have a lot of woods around where you live don't you, Dee? I don't here in CT but you can still pick up a few. They were terrible at the Cape since there are quite a few deer there...especially if you have any wooded areas nearby.

You know what was really weird this season? I didn't see any baby deer this year.... not one. Sometimes you see them dead on the side of the road but usually with groups of moms but I haven't seen a one.

I was saying to my husband the the cleanest we ever had with the ticks was when we had the chickens roaming free. They ate everything.

Chickens will eat anything. I used to throw all my leftovers off the deck. They would hear the door open and come running. Spagetti was always a favorite.

They used to grab the horse flies right off my horse's legs while she was eating.

My cat once came running for breakfast with a dead bird in his mouth. He put it down, batted it to make sure it wasn't going anywhere, then started eating his canned food. A chicken came by, grabbed the bird and took it off to eat.

The funniest thing was when a chicken had a frog in it's mouth with the legs hanging down, swinging back and forth as it ran away from the other chickens trying to get at it.
