Summer Fun...Pretty Soon

touvellep Jun 16, 2009 09:05 PM

2 days until summer break.....We can't wait to sleep in AND take leisurely strolls through the neighborhood and back trails. Our weather has been fabulous even though our economy has not....but, we"ll enjoy our time together. We hope all of you are having a great time, and can't wait to hear from all of you out there!

Patty, are you teachers? Sounds like you are planning to enjoy your summer!

I am currently a 5th grade teacher, but will be moved down to 3rd next year due to enrollment numbers. I have to say that teaching is a great profession (even with all the budget cuts), and my students LOVE meeting, and walking, with Beni and Kari. It's amazing how much a young student can learn from a dog - compassion, gentleness, patience, responsibility, etc...I do feel that the academic education of my students is my number one priority, but I can't forget the importance of the emotional/social growth of a child, as well...and how Beni and Kari make ME feel when I get home - curly tails wagging, smiling faces, and a love for life....they make every day a new and exciting experience!

Our Spring here in CNY was somewhat moderate with only a couple of really hot days. Not sure what the Summer has in store but I can handle moderate!

My "summer" started a few weeks ago, and Artemis and I have been taking lots of walks. We keep running into the same painted turtle, who interests Artemis greatly. Last night, I took a walk alone to watch the sunset (I usually bring Artemis, but she'd gone on a late afternoon walk, and I wanted to make sure she would "go potty" at bedtime, so I didn't take her with me), and had a surprise: a coyote ran out from the woods and, startled by my presence, dropped the hind end (legs/tail/back part of the torso) of a fawn (fresh kill). Very disturbing. I was just relieved Artemis wasn't with me. Never a dull moment. . .

Oh My Goodness,

I think I would have "freaked out!", but it is a true reminder of how fierce nature truly is (survival of the fittest). Whew....I'm glad you're o.k.!
