Sensitive, responsive, and they bark--a lot! Probably not a good idea to get a Sheltie if you live in an apartment. Okay if you live in a house and will keep your dog indoors. Out to potty under your supervision (even if after housetraining you just supervise by watching through an open door and calling the dog back inside).

Shelties are highly trainable. They need to be regularly combed out--daily is best, with a good comb like one from #1 All Systems or Chris Christensen. If you comb daily and the dog is kept in clean conditions, you may rarely need to bathe, because it is a fairly odor-free dog if kept clean.

Daily combing has enormous benefits to the dog's response to handling, to your bonding with the dog, and to the dog's health as well as making him or her look fantastic. A good comb is all you need--and a PetiPaws to do nails. That is a great tool.

Be sure you can afford veterinary care before you get a dog. It can be very expensive at times, and it is a dog owner's responsibility. Don't get a dog unless you're sure you can afford this.
