Are undocked schipperkes available in the US? I was on an extended riverboat trip with the owner of an undocked one. I liked the dog and the breed appears to be ideal for me. His dog was imported from Denmark to Alaska and had a nice furry tail. I am in cold country (Interior Alaska) and all the dogs that I have owned were huskies with furry tails. Those furry tails serve a purpose in cold winter weather and I would like to locate an undocked one somewhere in the US. Anyone know of a source?

I think some Schips are born tailess while some have tails that are docked soon after birth. My advice would be to look up some reputable breeders at some dog shows or the AKC site and see if one is having pups and ask them to leave the tail intact.

Thanks for your suggestion on contacting breeders. I did talk to a breeder in Alaska who knows of no one who sells schipperkes with tails. I'm still doing an interntet search and have not found anyone yet.

Check out UKC breeders or Canadian Kennel Club Breeders- many are going for a more "natural" dog since the FCI has banned docking and cropping on many of their breeds.
