bite you because of the bone he had. If he still had it when your sister went to pet him, that also could be the reason - food possession will make many dogs want to bite to protect their food.

As far as your sister's baby, has the dog ever shown any aggression to it at all? If so, this is a very dangerous situation.

I am only a dog owner who has had experience with food possession, but not with dog aggression towards babies. I urge you to speak to a person who specializes in this, and the sooner the better.

Good luck!

Is this the first time you have ever given the dog a bone? Has she shown any signs of food agression in the past? I would have your sister talk to her vet and have the dog examined for any medical concerns. I would also have the dog spayed at the earliest if only because of the baby learning to walk.

change in attitude.

Something's going on, but I'm not a specialist in dog behavior and can't help you very much.....

This is what is called "resource guarding". Maybe you shouldn't give her any more bones if she is going to act like this. I seriously doubt it had anything to do with her being in heat. How is she around her food? Maybe your sister should try to add some yummy tidbits to her food while she's eating.
