Questions on sexing my dragons.

poisonfrog420 Oct 10, 2003 07:46 PM

Hi, I have 7 3-4 month old beareded dragons and was wondering if I posted pictures of each of them if any of you would be able to tell me what sex they are. These are my first bearded dragons so I am unsure how to sex them and the only other lizards I have had are leopard geckos and frilled dragons. I think that what I have is one female and six males . Not that they are not great lizards, I was just hopeing to be able to set up at least two pairs. Any way, just let me know if any of you think you could help me out. Thanks a lot, Jake. You could also e-mail me at poisonfrog420@hotmail.com.

To determine sex, place them flat on your hand and with the tail facing you, lift it up. Look on the area just below the vent toward the tail side. A male will have two distinct bumps. A female has one rounded one

This is a male:

Also keep in mind, dragons this young may be difficult to sex. Most can't be accurately sexed in the lift tail method described earlier, till the dragon is about 6 months old. Vets can accurately sex them but it may cost alot, not sure what they would charge if anything.

Keep in mind that you may have to house each dragon separately as they mature. Even if most are female, they may not necessary get along all through their lives. Also, if they are all siblings, they shouldn't be bred to eachother.

Some of them are and some are not. They all have the same father, but two diffrent females.
