change in blocked salivary gland

AshHug23 Jul 15, 2009 09:35 PM

I was feeling of my dog's throat and I'm feeling some small little lumps under the skin on her throat. I've wrote to you before about her saliva gland and I've been giving her 1 pellet of the thiosinaminum 30c every day. The saliva gland is only blocked on one side of her face but runs down her neck also. Do you know what these tiny lumps could possibly be? Also, would it hurt to up the dosage and give her 2 pellets a day instead of just the one?

There can be small concretions that form from the saliva. Another possibility is the formations of small tumors, although unlikely. Is the salivary gland still blocked? You could give 2 pellets of Thiosinaminum 30 daily.

Yes, It is still blocked. It goes up and down from time to time but it's definitely still pretty big. I guess I might go ahead and take her to see the vet tomorrow about the lumps. I'm so afraid now that it could be cancer or tumors or something. She's really old, she'll be 14 this year. As for the blockage is there anything else that you recommend that I do for it? My vet will probably want to drain it but I don't see the point in doing that when it's just going to fill back up again. She hasn't changed her eating or drinking so I guess that's a good sign.

I felt of the main blockage on the side of her face this morning, and I feel something hard in it as well. It used to be only liquid feeling, kind of soft, but now I can feel something hard. Does that sound like it might really just be the saliva concretions you were talking about? If so, what can I expect with this new development?

This is where it is definitely advantageous to have a vet see the dog to evaluate it. Do take him to your ver for an examination.

What can I expect if it is the concretions formed from the saliva? I don't think she could survive a surgery, she's too old.

If the duct is blocked, you will at some point, when the gland is very enlarged, have to drain it to relieve the pressure. If it is blocked due to tumors, then you would expect tumors elsewhere as well, which carries a bad prognosis.
