Doxie jealousy

jonesybj Aug 06, 2009 11:53 PM

please help! I just got my second doxie and she is three years old and was abused as a puppy. She is already attached to my hip and barks at my roommates everytime they get near me. She also has a problem with my other doxie (female as well) when my other doxie tries to get attention from me the new one wedges itself in between us and then they get into a fight. The new one rubs and bumps against the other one and then they also start to fight. I don't know what to do. I need to know how to get my new dog to stop egging on my other dog and how to get her to stop trying to protect me from everyone.

For the aggressive attitude toward humans, you will need to work in person with a dog behavior specialist. Ask your veterinarian to recommend a local behavior specialist to get with you and the dog in person and help. It really can't be handled online or over the phone.

For the aggression between the female dogs, there may be no real solution. It is much, much better when you have two dogs if they are of opposite sex. Read this article for more information:

You may want to very seriously consider finding another home for this female Dachshund before there is a serious injury that makes her much harder or even impossible to place in a good home. I would not place her in a home with another female dog. And it may also be necessary to place her where she will not need to deal with many people other than her owner--a behavior specialist evaluating her can help you determine about that.
