Itchy Feet

kiko63 Sep 13, 2009 12:44 PM

Hello all!! I know that i havent been posting in a while but have been looking in. Dave does most of the posting. Well I got a question. This has been driving me crazy. Does any of your shibas out there been having itchy feet? Kona and Kiko have been having it bad. Kiko started, was on Prednisone, it went away and noe that she is not on prednisone, it is back. I was told that it may be the food. I had changed them a few months ago, then the itching started for Kona also. He is never itchy. I got them both on a different food now. I know it takes a bit before it gets out of their system.
I was also told that it may be wet grass after mowing. I have noticed alot that every morning we have heavy dew. Which i am told with the grass clippings get moldy and that could be it. I dont know what to think. Its crazy.
Anyone have any input? I have been using a tea oil and aloe spry on them when they will let me. You know how some shibas can be with their feet.
I just gave Kiko a bath. Maybe that will soothe her skin.
Thanks. I needed to vent.
Hope all of your Shibas are well and are not itching!!
Looking forward to Caledar Pics!!

Hi Joanne.. good to see you! As you know Toshi has allergies and I think you may be on the right track as to the grass or at least the grass being wet. With the grass being wet from dew she has been very reluctant to go outside in the mornings and in fact when it rains in general. I'm not sure if this causes her feet to itch but I suspect so as she will lick and lick. Problem is.... this is also her allergy time and this year has been no exception so finding a direct correlation is a bit difficult. The antihistimine as been working well but I just recently started to supplement that with the pred. Hope some others can offer some observations of their own.

Joanne,
When we first got Bella she got itchy feet quite a bit. The vet gave us a soak to use, but I forget what it was called. Also, after we switched them to Solid Gold Hollistic Blend we never had another issue. Her new owner mentioned she was going to leave her on it, too, because her skin and coat were so beautiful. She seemed good on Wellness, but GREAT on Solid Gold. If you haven't tried it, I'd give it four paws up.

Hi Amanda!
You know thats weird that you said that kind of food. Solid Gold Hollistic Blend. Thats what we have Kaia on for his health and liver issues. Its low in protein and he has done well on it. I have Kona and Kiko on Taste of the wild. I was told that its a pretty good food. i had them on Fromm chicken and vegetable and i think that may have did them in with more grains than they were used to.especially kona, he had been on a grain free for a while. I think the there may have been to much grain. I will see how it goes. It may come down to the solid gold if needed. Thanks. Hope all is well
