Dog Show... day one

Shboom Sep 24, 2009 10:52 PM

Turned out to be a good day for my friend Teri as her female... Ki took Best of Opposite at the show. Great thing about this is we think the number one female Shiba in the country was also in the show... if so this was a huge win for Teri and Ki. I'll know more tomorrow as they were working on sorting that out. The judge was also giving her other dog Tora handled by Steve her husband a hard look. Have to admit she looked good as well having her coat this year as opposed to last years show. It was fun catching up with Teri and Steve and we'll see how the remaining shows go.

I'll see what I can do... I haven't brought my camera to the shows in a long time.

It turned out to be another interesting and fun day. First of all we did find out that number one female Shiba in the country is in the shows this week so that makes Ki's win all that more sweeter.

At todays show both Ki and Tora were given a good hard look by the judge... even to the point of pulling them both out for an extra run around around the ring. Neither were picked today but they are showing well so that bodes well for the upcoming Speciality on Saturday and Sunday.

Lots of Shibas at the show today. The NSCA was having a Speciality as well as on Sunday. Tora and Ki finished second and third in the Veterans 7-10yr class. For the Breed show neither one garnered more than a glance from the judge who was a different judge than the Veterans. It was cool to see the older dogs out their strutting their stuff and receiving ovations from the on-lookers. It was these dogs... especially the old timers that paved the way for the Shibas that we know today.

On another note... due to a scheduling conflict I have delivery being made to the house on Sunday so I can't make Sunday's show as it's at 8am. This really bums me out! I told Teri to call me if the girls do anything special. So that is it until next years show!

Veterans at 7- 10 years....Wow.... I gave my Beni and Kari a good hard look and said,
"Are you two veterans?". I swear they both looked at me and gave me that Shiba grin - as if to say, "Yeah, until we turn into puppies and go CRAZZZZY - Shiba screams, squirrel chasings, and performing the "Running Man"....We're veterans, just DON'T underestimate us! "

P.S. It was my battery that was dead on my camera....I stood DogHobbyist oblivion as long as I could, your posts are just too fun to read without getting involved...Can't wait to read more about what's going on out there...

This year I am teaching 3rd grade and, as I do every year, I tell my students all about
the responsibility that comes with having a pet - exercise, potty pick-up, upset tummies, barking in the middle of the night, vet trips, etc., but I always tell them that the rewards are so much more...A smile, a wagging tail, an excited yip when you come home, a contented pup - with belly exposed - just waiting for a belly rub...and I share
the stories of you and your pups, as well. Your pups have inspired a lot of kids to be kinder and more patient, to want to learn more about the country we live in, and to
look forward to hearing more about the well being of others....Thank you all!

Thank YOU, Patty, for sharing these thoughts. Neat to know our little messages are being an inspiration for children!

That was nice of Patty, wasn't it, Mom!

I just received word from Teri on the results of Sunday's show. I'm really more than bummed out now that I couldn't go. Teri's dog Ki won BOS again in Sunday's show. That is 2 Best of Opposites against the number one female Shiba in the country. Teri said you could have knocked her over with a feather!! her friend Cheri had two Shibas come away with awards... Jiro received an award of merit and Akai went WD/BOW. Her other friend Charleen's Angel went WB. Congrats to them all!!

There was so much going on this year I never did get down to the Agility or Obedience rings. Oh well there is always next year's shows to look forward to.

Glad it was such a good year for Teri and her dogs! If I get to our big show in January I'll report from there as well. I may put a handler on Taiko and let him strut his stuff again in the Champions class this year. Not sure he'd like me saying that. He now hates conformation, but I do love him groomed up and in show coat.
