Blood in ear!

ZeusyGoosey Sep 29, 2009 05:38 PM

My dog has had on going excessive ear wax in his right ear. I clean it every two days. Today when I cleaned it I poured the liquid in his ear. Massaged the base and cleaned it out. I wrapped my finger up and when I pulled it out there was some blood on it but I didn't see any visible wounds so I'm assuming it was down in his ear canal. I'm worried.

Could this be severe? Could he lose hearing? He didn't cry while I was cleaning it out. He actually really likes it. He taps his foot when I do it. But blood coming from the ear doesn't sound right.

I use R-7 Ear Cleaner for dogs & cats. Ingredients: Water, 35% Isopropyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Oil of Eucalyptus, Polysorbate 60, FD&C Yellow #5, FD&C Red #40, FD&C Blue #1

If there is anything you can recommend or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Try using more liquid cleaner, massaging the ear canal well, and letting the dog shake the liquid out of the ear rather than wiping it out. Try not to put anything solid in the ear canal.

Thank you, Dr. I'll be sure to do that. Is there any reason though why the one ear gets so bad while the other ear is perfect?

I'm sure there is a reason only one ear is affected, but I don't know specificly what it is. It is probably related to the animal's particular metabolism. Numerous homeopathic remedies affect one side predominently, an observation made almost since the founding of homeopathy, but there is no explaination as yet.
