Do all ABs have webbed feet?

tcdrover Oct 09, 2009 10:22 AM

I'm curious about other American Bulldogs.

My female has completely webbed feet. I used to be able to walk her without a leash but at around 3-4 months she got a very
strong lust for water.

She wants to jump into every sitting body of water that she passes now. Even swamps qualify which is unfortunate. Where I
live there is plenty of nice open land areas but there is
swampy land and gators are common.

I need to find a nice beach where dogs are allowed.

I checked the AKC site and didn't find a listing for American Bull Dogs. They do list Bull dogs, but apparently in their standard webbed feet are not mentioned.

As a rule I don't think AB's have completely webbed feet unless perhaps they are mixed with a water dog. All dogs have some sort of webbing linking their toes together. Some webbing could be more prominent in non water dogs than in some others. If you could post a picture or two that may also help.

American Bulldogs are not a water dog. While some greatly enjoy the water my AB sinks and loathes swimming. He does enjoy a small pool on very hot days, but overall hates the water. Webbing in the feet would indicate a mixed breed.

I have attached the UKC registry information on the AB.

She is a purebred, registered AB. Her parents are registered &
both sets of grandparents are registered. Her parents both do
competitions and have won numerous events.

The listing you are referring to does not mention anything about
webbed feet for any breed of dog. It talks about splayed feet,
but that is something different, obviously.

Some dogs like to swim and some don't. I had a Golden Retriever as a kid, and a Doberman as a teenager & niether of them really
liked the water. I've seen some Yorkies that love to swim & some
that loathe the water. The same goes with Mastiffs.
