odd growth

Benjaman is 7yo 22 pound, lean corgi/dachshund ? mix

He has 'seasonal allergies' only when we have very hot humid days - usually in Aug, but changes this year had him itching in June, and then he had another very short spell Sept 22 - Aug 22. This isn't the issue, but needed to mention this, as he gets 25 mg prednisone 1 x daily/with graduated reduction off.

As he is mostly off, I haven't been too concerned - his latest full blood panel was fine Dec 08.

I know that the pred is not good, and his diet is also not so great - I select kibble that has meat as 1st/avoid corn, soy, glutens.

Mid Oct. took to vets with a swelling on bottom of foot between pads. Other feet are fine, this growth only has him favoring the foot, he does't chew at it. His other itching is not present.

vet Rx'd Cefpodoxime 100mg 1x daily and betadine soaks for 'pyroderma'. In 10 days no change, biopsied/results show no cancer, nor auto-immune

but high white cells/inflamation - so vet has diff antibiotic and prednisone as next treatment, which I've not started. There is not, nor ever has been any discharge. The tissue appears pink and 'healthy'.

My feelings are that - as long as it isn't bothering him, doesn't appear that it will spread/worsen, that those further meds would - even IF they did improve or 'cure' - possibly cause more overall negative affects to this dog's otherwise great health.

Am hoping that you will suggest an oral tincture and/or a poultice, and give me some ideas as to the cause and what type of results to expect from your treatment. thanks, Lynn and Benjaman

For the swelling between the toes, you might try putting a drop of thuja tincture on it twice a day for a couple of weeks.
Itching in late summer is often related to low thyroid output, so if this recurs, you might want to consider a thyroid panel.
For his diet, instead of dry kibble, try baked chicken leg quarters, with the long bones removed, cod liver oil or flax seed oil, and plain yogurt.
