Dr. Tobin,

My 12 year old cat was diagnosed with arthritis of the lower spine in June. He had started limping then, but now he is dragging his hind legs in back of him, and is having extreme difficulty in getting around. I'm concerned that his muscles will atrophy. It's hard for him to even get to his food and water and in and out of his low litter box. If I hold up his belly , he will use his hind legs to walk. He also has heart and kidney issues, and I'm also concerned that he's not going to be drinking enough water. He was on 1 capsule a day of Dasquin (125 mg. of glucosamine hydrochloride and 100mg. of chondroitin sulfate), but ikt didn't seem to be helping. Five weeks ago, the vet increased the dosage to 2 capsules a day, but he seems worse. My cat weighs 14 lbs. The vet said that he could give him some steroids or other meds, but it would not be good for his kidneys.
Is there anything I can do or give him that can turn this situation around. Please help!
