Socializing in a Fear Period

Yuzawa Dec 09, 2009 09:37 AM

So I have a 15 week old and she's been a very confident puppy up until about 13 weeks. Now she's acting a little more timid around strangers, which I find normal for a puppy that age. We have been taking her here and there to meet new people and get her well socialized, but I have to be careful not to reinforce or let other people reinforce fearful behavior. Do you think I should keep doing what I am doing or give her another week or so to get over this phase and then get started again with the socializing?

Remember to make all her experiences POSITIVE. That likely means keeping them short and ending each one happily. Anyplace you're not sure you can do that, don't take her there right now.
