Hi. My sister has a spayed female chihuahua that has a bladder infection. Are there any holistic treatments that she can try, or are antibiotics her only option? Thank you in advance for your advice.

There are several good treatments for bladder infections. If the dog is trying often to urinate, but is only able to expel a few drops at a time, especially if there is some blood in the urine, try giving homeopathic Cantharis 30c three times a day, directly into mouth, without food. Another very good treatment is to give d-mannose, available from a healthfood store, in doses of 1/8 tsp twice a day. Either treatment should resolve the problem within 2-3 days.
