The last time Becker was at the vets she said he had a bad tooth that needed to come out. Fine, we got an estimate as to the cost and made an appontment for last tuesday for the extraction and a teeth cleaning. Took him in and "Oh they forgot to put an expensive blood test on the estimate". Well, They have pulled this stunt before leaving something off the estimate and telling you about it when you have your appointment. Always before I just let it slide. This time it hit a nerve and I let them have it. There was a lot of stammering and stumblig around on their part and they offered to do it at a greatly reduced price. Ok,when we went to pick him up they said they had to extract 6 teeth. I guess they could see the steam starting to rise from my ears because they didn't charge for any of the extractions and plucked his ears and trimmed his nails. In addition they gave me a $150 discount. Sometimes it pays to raise a little H.
He had his follow up today and he is doing great. In fact he was eating like nothing was wrong the next day.

They were running around the house this evening play fighting like a couple of pups. December 26th they will be 9 years old.

Oh Gary, that's terrible that you had to go through all that but glad that things turned out well. I guess we just have to speak up and question things when they just don't sound right. Happy to hear that things went well and Becker's doing great.

I used to work for a vet that would "pad" the bill before someone would come to get their dog. It was really bad if they called for a total and he would change it before they got there.

Ayla had diarrhea last Saturday into Monday. And the past week has had more solid stools but they had mucus on it so I called the vet and brought in a sample to be tested at $20. She had some bacterial spores going on and suggested medication. Picked up the medication that was already cut in half for me...that surprised me. Cost of medication...$3.50...really surprised me. And I didn't have to bring her in for a office visit but I did bring her for a visit.

It's not fun giving her pills. I put it in cheese. Will have to try something else. Sometimes it comes out, back in, come out, so I just shove it down.

The vets around here are getting crazy with their prices. One of the stomach meds Becker is on she was charging $18 for and I found I could get it at Wally World over the counter for $2.50. Guess where I get it now?

We get paper thin sliced pre packaged dried beef and give Becker his meds wrapped in that. Really he is pretty good about taking his meds. Now Tootles it is fight with whatever you want to do with her except her bath and grooming. She loves them.

Good for you Gary. I totally understand. Sometimes the vets are just ridiculous on their charges. Don't event me started on dentists...LOL
I never could understand how one vet in Arkansas charged me $300 for a dental on Dukum, which included 3 extractions, but they were not really extractions, as Shih Tzu get older the teeth are shallow rooted and they basically fell out while they were being cleaned. Anyway, then I found Scott and he charges $85 for a dental which includes the blood work, anesthesia, cleaning and it is only $4 a tooth if they need anything extracted but if the tooth comes loose during the dental and basically falls into his hands he does not charge for that. He tells me he makes a profit at that price and he has 2-3 girls in his office same as the other vet, so imagine how much the other vet is making in profit, and the area where they are both practicing is not an affluent area, these people can barely afford to have pets, it is no wonder pets go without the necessary treatments. UGH
Now that I will be leaving the area most likely I am so sad because Scott is the best vet ever and so affordable...

I don't think Katie has lost any teeth yet...at least not that I can see. I don't know if chewing her Greenie Bones have helped or not but they certainly haven't hurt. Right now she's batting her treat ball around the room. There are a couple of treats that just don't want to come out and she's determined that they will come out. LOL

That is one cheap vet. Maybe you should take him with you. Our vet charges $45 up to $165 for an extraction depending on the difficulty. We try to get treatment anytime it is necessary but our pockets aren't deep and are getting more shallow all the time. I don't know what we will do when we can no longer afford to give them the necessary treatment. I don't even want to think about it.

That's great about Becker thinking that he's a pup at times. Katie's the same way in some things. She doesn't jump up on the couch or chair anymore by herself but she'll let you know when she wants to be in either place. LOL She'll also let you know if you're a little late giving her her supper.
