Had quite a scare with my "Jazz Man" the past couple of days. His bad leg and his back have really been bothering him and there has been marked weakness in his back end. Sunday night he slid and fell and couldn't get up. Scared me to death. Of course, he was not sure about walking up the stairs to the main part of the house, so I got out the sling (which I had loaned out and it came back with one of the straps badly chewed, so I am going to have to get out the dreaded pointy thing and that "thread" stuff) and we made it up the stairs and outside. He seemed to get just a teeny bit better, but yesterday got so bad that I didn't know if he would make it through the night. This was especially heart breaking since during the holidays he was running (OK.. not runniung as he used to, but a slow "gallop" with a big grin on his face} and was getting around fairly well. Last evening he didn't eat his dinner, not even with canned food on it. He has been eating well ever since he finally got over the diggie "flu". Wouldn't even try to come down to the family room, not even with the help of the sling, peed in the house and was mortified, so finally let me help him out and off the porch. He was so uncomfortable that I gave him half a deramax at bedtime so that he could sleep comfortably, and this morning he appears to be somewhat better. In fact, he ate the dinner from last night for breakfast ~ warmed in the microwave, of course ~ and is beside me here in the family room ~ which means that he "braved" the stairs. We will just have to keep a really close eye on my old man and make sure that he remains comfortable. I will NOT allow him to be in pain .... He is such a sweetheart. You can see his adorable buck teefies in the picture below.

Dogs and cats come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.

Adopting one greyhound will not change the world, but the world will change for that one greyhound.
