How often can I feed crickets?

trinacliff Oct 10, 2003 11:23 PM

Newbie with some questions...I was wondering what is best for their staple diet? Are crickets to only be fed every once in awhile, or is it ok as a main food? These are about 1/8 - 1/4" crickets...I'm not quite sure how I know if I'm feeding them enough or too much. They are about 1 1/2" long.

They don't seem crazy about the ReptoMin...but I guess I'll keep trying every once in awhile. All it does it cloud up the water really badly.

What other things are best to feed them that they'll love?

Thanks!
Kristen

No I say try Reptomin or other pellet foods more. Crickets are not okay for an everyday meal. You need to visit austin's turtle page to look at what the diet says. It's obvious that crickets have protein in them, but thats about all they have. Your RES will need more and feeding them pellets is a good start. Get them eating that on a regular basis - after all its made from fish so they should like it.

Then you'll need to bring in vegetables for them to munch on. Again visit the austins turtle page for more details on what to feed them. I figure crickets are only a snack or just have a couple in there at feeding time - but the majority of that feed should include pellets and vegetables.
