Proper Ways of Delivering Puppies

A similarity between infant death syndrome has occurred with my dog and her litter of six pups. I don't know what happened. Here's the story.

As of Dec. 10th, my dog gave birth to six puppies. One I found dead on the floor, a few yards from the mother, another died at the mother's side the next day, and yet two more just wouldn't take to the nipples though I tried to make them. They died a few days later.

Thing is, i have a little dog bed for my dog and wonder if I caused more harm than good. Perhaps it was too cramped for the pups to feed. I found one squashed on the mother's backside. The last I believe suffocated, and that after three weeks, due to a blanket I put on the bottom of the bed.

One survives. But I wonder if I didn't deliver these pups correctly. My only other guess is they were born immature and unhealthy. But is there a correct way to make sure your dog gives birth safely?

usually it is the dog the delivers the puppies and you have little say in matter, so you shouldn't feel bad if things don't go well. Do you know how long your dog was pregnant for? Premature delivery is a bit unusual in dogs, but having most of the litter die can happen for a variety of reasons (some puppies just fade for unknown reasons, some for viral reasons- your dog well vaccinated?, some mothers just not good mothers, particularly the first time around). Chances are, if you are intent on breeding your dog again (a totally 'nother issue) things will go better next time.
