The Verdict

touvellep Feb 02, 2010 11:06 PM

Hello out there,

The verdict is in....and the verdict is..... IN!!! I've taken all of your words of wisdom and decided that the safest place for Beni and Kari is inside. Besides the coyotes I have found evidence that someone is throwing treats in our yard (I'm assuming to stop Beni and Kari from barking), and with Beni's sensitive stomach and this new unsafe situation, being inside is the safest place to be. Funny, but Beni and Kari are a lot calmer when I get home, too - maybe it was stressful thinking they had to protect their home all the time???!!! What do you think?

Hope all of your Shibas and you are enjoying good health, your walks, and belly rubs together.

Patty, Beni, and Kari

P.S. Kari says, "Hi" to Tsuki!!! We hope to see you at the summer Shiba get together!

Hi Patty--

Good to hear from you! It would seem that the transition from yard freedom to staying in when Mom isn't home was really very easy. They really may feel safer and happier tucked inside....and as you say, less of a feeling of responsibility.

As for the treats, being thrown in the yard, what kind of things are they? This would be very upsetting to me. I hope you can determine who is doing it. There are so many things we wouldn't want our babies to eat!

Yep, inside is best when Mom's not home!

Patty I think that is the best decision you could make. Not being home and the dogs having access alone to the yard could have had serious consequences down the road. It's good to see they have adapted already to being inside... that makes it a lot easier. I'm guessing they could be a lot calmer just from not getting worked up having an animal or person(s) coming close to the house. The treat thing bothers me. It could be a neighbor with good intentions but then again there is always the threat of some wacko intending to harm the dogs. Did the treats looked tampered with at all? Were they normal dog treats or a homemade something or other?

Hello all,
The treats I found were 2 large Milk Bone dog biscuits. I assume that Beni and Kari must have had their fill if there was even a morsel left....and I have had enough evidence from Kari that she was eating extra food! I have also been told that some of the gardeners have been known to throw treats to quiet barking dogs, and Kari is a barker.
I'm just glad that I know that my pups are safe, and I do make it a point to bring my work home so Beni and Kari can get out asap....

Thanks for all of your advice and support!
