Can you please tell me of some holistic ways that I could protect my dog against heart worm? I don't give him any type of medications for that due to the pesticides it contains and the only vaccine he gets is rabies because it's required by law.

Anything holistic and natural will do great.

Homeopathic heartworm nosodes have worked well for me and my patients. Since heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes, using a mosquito repellent on the dog before his going out reduces the chances of him getting bitten by a mosquito. Citronella oil and cedar oil work well, but so do many other essential oils. Also, try to avoid having him out around dawn and dusk and any other times when the mosquitoes are thick. If you walk your dog, you probably don't want to be out at those times either.
