Warning about stuffed toys--not pet toys

Kiricki Mar 28, 2010 02:25 PM

This has been circulating in emails. A query to Snopes brought the following reply:

I used to chew Teddy Bears, but I didn't swallow!

While Snopes hasnt't marked this as being true it does hold a sense of validation. Children's toys are made using different materials than those of dog toys so the word here would to be cautious and mindful what your dog is playing with.

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.

I feel bad any time I read one of these alarms. Yet, I also feel bad that people are in a panic because they have given their dogs stuffed toys to play with and now will think twice.

Supervision with toys is important. If you have a dog prone to eating anything- labs tend to be the worst offenders here- then you have to be extra careful. It's not the chemicals in the toy that was the sole cause for concern here. Dogs should not eat any stuffing- even the stuff in dog toys. It's not good for their intestines. It does break down a bit, but too much of it and it will cause problems.
