My dog Mojo has an injury with either a neck strain or a weak disc. She has always had constipation issues but since her injury she has not had a bowel movement to my knowledge. About 4-5 days. I have been watching her pretty closely. She is taking Metacam for her injury. Her appetite isn't the greatest but she is eating wet dog food (she will not touch dry food right now and I thought the wet dog food was good to keep her hydrated).

I gave her some Toniclax the other day and have been mixing some flax into her food. My vet indicated that as long as she is eating and not throwing up not to be too concerned about the constipation right now but I am not sure how long to leave it.

Is there anything else I can try to give her to relieve the constipation?

If you are giving enough flax seed, this should work as a bulk laxative, but at times it may be necessary to flush out the bowels with a different kind of laxative. You might try giving cascara sagrada, an herbal laxative, in the dog's food for a couple of days, until the stools are somewhat loose. Were there any other injuries you could see due to the accident?

Thank you for your reply. No other injuries seem apparent. She is doing better this week. She is moving around alot better. Her appetite is alot better and she had 3 bowel movements since I started with the flax in her food. They are very hard though. I do have some of that herbal laxative at home - how much would I give her?
