Trouble pooping

barbsbooklady Apr 21, 2010 06:49 PM

My puppy a 9 month old mixed breed is having a problem when she poops. She is crying. Last week she did have a digestive upset and had both the runs and an upset stomach, but has been better.I checked her backside as best I could and do not see any noticable problem with her anal glands or any blood. Her stools look normal but a little softer than before. Any ideas her? Her behavior is fine other than when she goes. If this continues I will have to take her to the vet.

Try changing her diet for a week or so. Stop whatever you are feeding and give her cheap hamburger and plain yogurt. The hamburger is highly digestible, leaving little residue, so her stools will be smaller and firmer. The yogurt will provide the intestinal bacteria for a proper intestinal flora. See how she does on this protocol. For longterm use, you would need to add bonemeal and omega three fatty acids to round out the diet, but don't add them the first week.
