Helloooooo

touvellep May 11, 2010 09:03 PM

Hello!
We are healthy, happy, and wondering about all of you out there.
We recently went through a "Beware of Rattlesnakes" class - live rattlers and e-collars were used to help pups be more aware of the dangers of these reptiles - I hope it helps, with so many snakes you can never be too careful... But....we miss the updates
on all of your pups and you. Whether it is exciting, funny, loving, or plain old every - dayish we want to hear from you!!!!

Hope to get a lot of much missed info....

Patty, Beni, and Queen Kari

It's hard to believe how quiet this forum has become over the last couple of years.

So how did the class go on the dangers of snakes? Without constant correction and the inquisitive nature of Shibas those snakes will always be a curiousity.

Beni seems to be doing better after injuring either his back or hip area. I'm in the wind down period for the pred so I'll see how he is once he is off the medication. Both Keiko and Toshi are doing okay though I have noticed a slight little limp with Keiko probably due to the hip dysplasia. Hate my guys are getting old... I'll have to get some new pictures up sometime.

Hi Bob,
I know how you feel about our pups getting old - My Beni has been squinting through one eye and laying down a lot during our walks, but when a certain something or other
catches his attention he gets a burst of puppy energy that makes me feel GREAT! He gets a major burst of energy that has Kari and me struggling to keep up for about 50-100 yards - then he is pooped out. My little queen has been perfecting the "Art of Smell" that she learned from Beni - a lot more smelling, a lot less running - but both still have that stubborn, independent streak that makes them true SHIBAS. I LOVE them so much!!!!

Patty

*Not sure about the rattler class - we recently strolled by one and neither Beni or Kari noticed - I was hoping for a stronger "stay away" reaction....so I will continue to be 200% aware of what is around us on our walks.
We are happy to hear Beni is still doing well, we hope Keikos's limp goes away, and pray that Toshi continues to stay in good health....And... of course we send our positive energy towards the health and happiness for you and your family!

Patty are you being serious about your Beni squinting through one eye or is that just a figure a speech? After dealing with my Beni's glaucoma for almost 4 years... statements like that always make me take notice!

I wish it was a figure of speech, but he has been squinting through his left eye...he usually smells an area for a while, but when it's time to continue walking he will lock himself in place and start squinting his eye. I have not noticed him bumping into anything or being uncomfortable, though. Do you think I should be concerned?

Patty it's hard to say. How does the eye look to you? You would have to look close to see any kind of haze or bluish tint. It could be something like a scratched cornea or it could be nothing. Has he been doing this for a while or is just recently? I know if it were me I would be paying close attention and getting it checked out if it persists.

Things are good, here in Colorado. Would be better if spring would actually come and stay! We get about one really warm day a week, and then back to chilly. We had a change this week, though. We had snow on Tuesday night! Not much, but still.............snow in May just isn't right!

I'm late in reporting that Murphy turned 4 on Mother's Day! He had a nice day with yummy treats.

Happy Birthday to ME!

Hi Anne, Bill, and Murphy,

We are kind of in the same weather boat, except we get one very hot day and six wonderful, mild days....if only our economy could be so nice.....we just hope to "weather" this out. Happy, happy belated birthday to Murphy - Beni, Kari, and I always look forward to his input!

Hi Bob,
Beni must think his mama has gone mad - I have been staring intently into his eye and I haven't noticed anything, but I think a professional opinion is always best. A visit to the doctor will make me feel better...I just don't want him to be going through a difficult change by himself.
We hope you and your trio are enjoying belly rubs, yummy treats, and relaxing walks!

For the rest of you out there....Where are you and how are you doing??????
We miss reading about you!

Hey, Guys! I just love to get my words in every now and then. Thanks for the Birthday wishes!!

Hello to you!

All are good in my house. We've been taking in temporary fosters and dog sitting quite a bit. Had a loud Alaskan Klee Kai puppy for 8 days. Sweet personality, but vocal. Kita's better with puppies than I ever would have expected. Taiko does better when they are a bit older. We have to be a bit selective on what personalities comes in, but generally by the second night, they are safe to romp with my two- with supervision.

Kita is getting more white in her face and that saddens me, but her vet loves how she's doing. She turns 11 this summer. She is the worlds best family dog. Cuddly, friendly, enjoys the neighbor kids, plays "house" with my daughter, and is a pillow for my son when he plays video games. Does a good shiba spaz every morning to liven up the whole house. Enjoys her "dog gum" of Polly Pocket shoes daily.

Taiko continues to competatively run agility with me at least one day every other weekend. We still go to classes, but those too tend to not be every week. It's not that we don't enjoy classes, it's just we are at a point of polishing skills and working on subtle handling/teamwork stuff. That type of stuff allows me to work at home on it some away from the instructor. If anyone had told me 5 years ago how complex and important the little things were in this sport, I would not have believed them. Still, it's fun to finally master a skill and see it work going over 5 YPS on a course. Taiko is the opposite of Kita. He's MY dog and not the family's dog. He's sweet and cuddly to me. Everyone else is staff.

Ying and yang- that's my two. Forever balanced.
